Day 20 - A Song That You Listen To When You’re Angry
I don't have a particular song to listen when I'm angry but if I ever do, this would be it. Such a happy and optimistic song isn't it?

Day 19 - A Song From Your Favorite Album
This is also my most favorite song from the whole album. I've loved this song the most even though Burnout came out first (and technically the most loved), even though Telepono was the first single I heard the band sang (in UP Fair). Perhaps because it was the perfect song that hit home, the first song that was actually able to describe how I felt during those heydays haha.
PS: it doesn't only really refer to romantic shiz. Come on, we can all do better analysis here ;)

day 18 - A Song That You Wish You Heard On The Radio
I love Jack's Mannequin. This band makes me happy with the kind of music that they make, and vocalist Andrew McMahon's personal story? It is quite moving and inspiring to say none the least. I would have love to put the music video here but embedding wasn't allowed so here's another gem I found in cyberspace instead.

day 17 - A Song That You Hear Often On The Radio
I rarely get to listen to radio the past few months. I only get updated of what's the current music craze when I ride the public bus which isn't really the face of the radio community but it'll do.

Day 16 - A Song That You Used To Love But Now Hate
Don't get me wrong, hate is such a strong word maybe the right word should be "outgrew". I still like Linkin Park, I still get a kick rapping the lyrics to In The End, but this song, I can forego this :)

Somehow, I really could relate to this song. No, I'm not a superstar, I never had any intention to be one anyway.

Day 14 - A Song That No One Would Expect You To Love
Today was the first time I heard of this song. I was watching the last few minutes of Kylie's Showgirl concert in Star World when she sang this song, and I liked it haha. And also, for the first time, I truly appreciated Kylie's talent and how she is indeed comparable to a wine, just keeps getting better in time!

Here is that song that whenever I hear, and that's quite rare, is such a guilty pleasure. I don't care if it's a teleserye OST since the song rocks naman talaga :)

Day 07 - A Song That Reminds You Of A Certain Event
It wasn't a momentous event of my life nevertheless I regard it as an experience that somewhat belongs to Mariela-poorita-bordering-on-desperada days. I was looking for a job, landed one and then have to leave after the first day of training because they thought I have something wrong with my lungs. For some time I, too, believed it. Then fear crept out on my fragile mind thinking "what if it's true?" I was running to and from various hospitals and clinics looking for someone to clear my lung record.
You know what makes that day super frustrating to the point I was leaving a trail of tears all over the metro? It was my birthday eve. I was riding a bus then suddenly tears will just fall down my eyes no joke. I swear it was the perfect moment where I can claim nakakaawa naman ako. I was such an emo haha.
But I persisted, and most of all, He heard me. All the prayers and bargaining paid off.
PS:
I don't think I got a lung problem. At least according to my recent medical result. Screw that clinic for scaring the shit out of this wan girl!

Day 06 - A Song That Reminds You Of Somewhere
"When you're in the golden sea, you don't need no memory..."
This song always remind me of the beach. A vacation. Tan lines. Fruit juices. Lounging around. Of carefree days when you're away where your biggest problem is what food to choose for lunch in wherever your happy place might be.

Nine Days - If I Am
Nine Days, in fairness, is not a one-hit wonder band, they are 2-hit wonder band kasi! But seriously, I loved these guys back when I was college and whenever I hear their song in the radio (pag Friday classics) I immediately think of my friend Jog who introduced me to them.
I remember going crazy for this band I practically begged him to give me his The Madding Crowd cd when he left our boarding house. At yung cd ha hindi naman orig (sorry!) at puro na gasgas but I treasured it so much up until di na kinaya ng tenga ko ang pagtalon-talon nya haha.

Baby (Multidrink) Nalgene
Technically my 3rd Nalgene but I lost my very first bottle (a gift from my friend Kimi) after leaving it on a trike (which I never got back from the driver sniff). My second bottle was given to me by the Cheese as a replacement to the one I've lost. And this new baby here given by my friend Pam as a belated birthday gift via coercion haha.
I love Nalgene! It's a must have kit whenever I'm outdoors or on out of towns. I wish I could buy one in every design (and color too) but they're so expensive gosh. But the quality naman aysus, winner!

Day 04 - A Song That Makes You Sad
While the overall theme of this song might sound too glum, it actually is the opposite. Even though this song makes me sad and ache somewhere deep in the recesses of my heart (naks mehganon!), it however provides hope to anyone who would actually know the lyrics (and the story behind) of the song. Besides, don't we all want someone who will sing us the lines "kapit ka sa akin at hindi kita pababayaan..."?

Super 8
Super 8 reminded me so much of The Goonies, a 1985 film also produced by Spielberg.
And this 1986, Rob Reiner film (based on Stephen King's novella, The Body).
Did you see the common factor?
You got it right. Friends and adventures. I actually fell in love with the kids of Super 8, for me they're the real scene stealers. Aside from the "thing" that we're rooting for to live ( I won't spoil it for you if you haven't seen it yet). Is that a first? I'm not sure but I think no.
I love the film's vintage effect and of course, a Spielberg movie is never without it: bicycles.

The funky beat, the slight hint of Alex Turner's British accent, makes it a happy song for me.

Day 02 - Your Least Favorite Song
Scratch that, I love this song. I'm not sure what "least favorite" song meant. So I assumed it's still a song you really like but not say, in your top 10? I dunno, confusing talaga!
Regardless, here it is as how it appeared in that 90s movie we all loved.

Day 01 - Your Favorite Song
Seriously, it's too hard to choose just one favorite song. But in order to come up with one, I chose something that goes all the way back to high school. I was fourteen when I got introduced to (alternative) rock scene. I live in a far off province, in a way, everything came late to me. Except for Hanson, which is another story.

Blog Action Day: Save our Coral Reefs and Seas
If you have not heard of the recent debacle on our southern sea front yet, the one where a double city-sized reef were damaged, then I reckon you're not using the internet well. I don't have a television nor do I subscribe to dailies, but since I'm pretty much online 16/7 (yes, I sleep), I read and am made aware of this recent tragedy. Twitter and Facebook are social networking sites that can be really powerful (and useful) mediums when they deliver this type of news.
This is a serious business. It's not something that should be just shrugged off and forgotten after two weeks of talking about it. My God how many millions of marine lives have they killed because of corporate profit? I shudder at the thought of the ecosystem that they screwed by harvesting those corals.
From savephilippineseas site:
"Exploitative foreign firms, in tandem with local partners and left unchecked by irresponsible government officials, are illegally harvesting and peddling our precious coral reefs. In one case, coral reefs twice the size of Manila was destroyed, and the plunder continues."
I haven't seen all of Philippines' marine ecosystem, heck I'm not even halfway yet, but one thing that I can attest and be proud of is that we really have an awesome, AWESOME marine environment that many people will die to have and to see.
As a citizen of this country, let us do our part in preserving our seas. For the leaders, please don't let something like this happen again. There are rules, you should be firm in following it, iron-fisted if necessary. Do not let big time international companies bully or cheat on us. We want the future generation to inherit a rich marine ecosystem so that they too, can experience the treasures that can be found under our territorial waters.
A sample of what's down under. Top left: Clownfish in Pulo Diyot, Bantayan Island, Cebu; live corals on Apo Island, Dumaguete; huge colorful fish in Marine Sanctuary, Mabini, Batangas; and various fishes and corals in Atuwayan Beach, Coron, Palawan

1, 2, ... 10 JUMP!
On my third time to the incredible place up north we all call Sagada, I finally had the guts to take that 20 feet plunge. My goolay! I'm not a good swimmer at all, but the thought of falling on a 17 feet deep basin didn't scare me at all kasi alam kong aangat at aangat ako and from there I'll paddle like hell na lang. What scared the shit out of me was what I saw while peering down. Where I stood, down below seems awfully far, mataas ang 20-foot drop ha.
Kailangan ng maraming lakas ng loob para iangat ang paa mo at tumalon. If you're on the top and about to do it, I swear you will hesitate on your first try. Or your second, and third and so on. But of course, if you have a bunch of friends urging and cheering you on - telling you that you can do it - it lessens the scare factor. At sa mga pagkakataong ito nagpapasalamat ako that we Filipinos have the "bahala na" factor to guide us in every decision-making tasks we need to accomplish haha.
Thank you Bathala for that thrilling experience. Thank You we all came out alive with no fatalities at all. I did it thrice! Though the first 2 was from the shorter drop. The coldness of the water is nothing once you hit it. I suggest you do the same if you find yourself in Bokkong Falls, in Sagada.
Priceless experience.
